There are many countries in this world still fighting against starvation. The people probably never get the chance to enjoy a three-meal for a daily basis, the opportunity that I have the luxury for. We can help them out, probably not in a direct way.
FreeRice is simply a website, that let you play some word-game. The game itself is just a synomnim based system, you pick a word with similar meaning with the one being asked. Simple, but it helps you to formulate your idea in a better way because you’ll learn new words (and many other advantages related to word-knowlegde). For each correct answer, you donate 20 grains of rice.
The donation is provided by the sponsor, which banner is shown under the game itself. So everytime you get correct answer, the sponsor provide funds for 20 grains to be used by the WFP (UN World Food Program) for buying rice for helping feed the hungry.
The first FreeRice donations went to purchase rice:
- In Bangladesh, to feed 27,000 refugees from Myanmar for two weeks. Please click here to watch FreeRice being distributed in Bangladesh.
- In Cambodia, to provide take-home rations of 4 kilograms of rice for two months to 13,500 pregnant and nursing women.
- In Uganda, to feed 66,000 school children for a week.
- In Nepal, to feed over 108,000 Bhutanese refugees for a day.
So lend some of your time, to play the game and help the hungry.
FreeRice is a sister site of the world poverty site, Poverty.com.

Hey,
Avanoo.com is a startup that is trying to help make the world better by letting people use a new support channel- web presence. Web users can go to Avanoo.com get a badge for a cause and start raising awareness and donations 24/7 effortlessly. And each time one of these badge is clicked, a donation is made to the organization on the badge. If you could put a badge on you badge or write about this growing movement, you would be helping to make the world a better place!
Thanks,
Rajesh
